Storing word documents online -/privacy ?
Posted by admin | Filed under Google
I recently asked this question – Is there a way I can store word documents online?
I move around a lot and do not have a laptop. Apart from emailing word documents to myself is there a simple way I can store word documents on the internet? (FREE) Preferably in a way that I can edit the documents and it is relatively private ie it wont come up on any old google search.
two suggestions were geocities and google.docs. Some of the information I want to save is relatively private – how could I make sure it would not come up on a web search?

There are a few ways to store documents online. Google docs, Microsoft’s new Skydrive, and a site called Scribd.
Google Docs is nice because it gives you the comfort of essentially using an online version of MS Word. You can write and edit docs online just as you would in Word, only slower. Some other nice features are as follows: share documents with others, revision control and notes, and exporting to a PDF file.
Skydrive acts like an online hard drive. You can store any type of file you like on there, and lots of them. It lets you create folders, share the folders with others or the public, and gives you a lot of space (500MB currently.)

I was of the opinion that GOOG machine searched Gmail for targeted advertising but didn’t do this to Google docs.
I still think this is true but the above post highlights the open nature of the TC’s you agree to when opening a Google docs account.
After reading that I don’t think I’ll be putting anything private on Google docs.
