Can you message people through Yahoo Answers? Or does it have to be by email?

I have people on my contacts list but it seems a little pointless if I can’t easily message them, and emailing a stranger seems a little forward, a bit over familiar. Any tips?

In answers, that’s called a chat, or chatting, and it is strictly forbidden. Do it, and you will find yourself with either violations, or have your account suspended or closed. You can contact other people in answers via email, if they allow that. Many people today do not allow email because of the stalkers or trolls so prevalent in Answers.

You can send a person a message if they have Instant Messaging (IM) in their profile. Otherwise, it’s perfectly acceptable to send e-mail. I do it from time to time. All you’ll get is an e-mail saying You have received a message from another user.
A troll is someone who goes around reporting answers they simply don’t agree with, or reporting people they have a vendetta against, simply to get a rise out of them or just for kicks. It’s pissant annoying, and I wish the webmasters would do SOMETHING about this!

Yes you can. All you have to do is click on the user’s avatar and you’ll be taken straight to their profile page. You can contact the user by sending them an email or IM (if they allow being contacted by either or both means). Also, there’s a hyperlink to their 360 page that you can visit.
Remember you can’t chat on this site because of the Community Guidelines. This is the most-violated infraction of the very set of rules.
