Can I sue a company for privacy rights?

I inquired about a job opening, filled out an application (checked do not contact current employer), went to interview, and declined job offer. Hiring employer then sends out a mass email to my company that shows my emails to them about the job opening and bashing me. Do I have any grounds to sue?

As long as what they said in the email was all true, you have no grounds for a lawsuit.

If the bashing you included defamatory statements – i.e. knowingly false statements of fact – then you can sue the sender for defamation.

    No, you don’t.

Unless as was said what was said in the email was false or you lost your current job or had other repercussions because of it then probably not, think of it as a no harm no foul kind of thing. Even if what they did was illegal you’d have to prove damage to make a claim, although that can vary by state.
