I keep getting mailer daemon notices even though I haven’t sent messages to the addresses listed?

I have been inundated with Mailer Daemon notices, half of which are in German or other foreign languages. I do very little emailing and know that the addresses I send to are valid. What’s going on? I’m begining to suspect some third party has been using my email address. How can I stop/report this?

Thats spam.Recently spammers have turned to disguise their spam as Mailer-Daemon returns, so it doesn’t get recognised as spam.Maybe it’s also used for spreading viruses and trojans.They aren’t really notices of failure to deliver, everyone can set up an email adress like : and send emails from there.If you don’t remember having sent such an email, leave it unopened and delete it.
