high school juniors emailing a counselor? Is it a good way to show them you are?

I am trying to find a way to communicate with my counselor, and I figure email would be the best way. It shows how concerned I am about my future. Do you think its appropriate for a student to email their counselor?– Or is it worse than actually making an appointment to see one?
