Is it rude to stop contacting someone online after emailing back and forth?

I was online two weeks with this guy who kept saying he wanted to meet up, but didn’t take action. He had another date on Saturday and then he hid his profile. BUT, he sent me some stupid joke, which he’s never done. I asked him if this was his way of saying HI and letting me know his profile was gone. And I asked if his date went so well that he didn’t put his profile up. He said it was spectacular. I said, It would have been a nice civil courteous gesture to give me an FYI: The girl I dated Saturday was cool and I won’t be dating anyone anymore (Especially, because he made plans to go out with me that week for lunch). Instead of making me guess.
- Was it wrong for me to even write him to say I thought it was rude?
He said I needed therapy.
I guess I am just not sure what online etiquette is, since I’m new to it. To answer the question why I’m online: I just moved back to the States as a single mom, go to school full time now , work 10 hours and teach Junior Achievement. Going out and meeting guys with my limited time just isn’t an option. So I felt he really wasted my time. I was just shocked by his response and it made me think if things have changed in 10 years, as far as courteous behaviour.
